I finally finished putting together the story about St. Lawrence University students giving up technology for a week and a half for their first year seminar class. Modeled after a story I heard last summer, my voice doesn't narrate the story at all. It aired on NCPR on Wednesday.

Some photos from my trip to NYC. It finally stopped raining on Saturday so I went for a walk on the upper west side of Manhattan.

And Sunday night I walked around the theatre district of Broadway:

I haven't posted in a while so here's an update- I finally finished the story about my mom teaching in Honduras the story aired on NCPR on Monday, and I'm almost finished with the profile of the St. Lawrence University students who went for a week and a half without cell phones/internet/other assorted technologies.
And I just got back a few days ago from a long weekend in New York City. I was there for the premier of the movie Exploding Girl, written and directed by the husband of the director I worked for in Massena. Some (pretty terrible) photos of the city should be up later.

18-year-old Matthew Flynn is running for a legislative seat in district 8 of northern NY. I went to the press conference last week to talk with him- the story aired on NCPR this morning.

My last full day in Honduras. Mum and I walked around Comayagua and stopped to walk into the school where she teaches. I hadn't actually seen much of the town yet, other than the busy area around the bus stations and the market. I loved the mixture of sedate colonial building and the bright, tropical colours.

On our way back we stopped at a pre-Christmas church service. The church in one of Comayagua's many squares was decorated beautifully for Christmas, with a tree at the front and piņata-like things hanging from the ceiling. The service was all in Spanish and the congregation's singing was beautiful. I recorded a bit of it standing in the back.

A photo I snapped at 6am as we were on our way to catch the boat back to the mainland. Wishful thinking.

The Utila fire station. Even the small fire engine and ambulance look way too big to drive on the island's roads where most traffic is on motorcycles, 4-wheelers or bikes.

Looking out at the boats docked at La Ceiba, Honduras. We got a ride from La Ceiba to Utila, an island off the north coast of Honduras.

A cargo ship headed for La Moskitia, an area on Honduras that can be reached only by boat or plane.

I had barely gotten off my flight and past security when I met the Honduran president-elect!

Porfirio Lobo had just gotten off his public flight from Miami and was giving a press conference in a corner of the airport. No one seemed terribly concerned, not even his gun-carrying bodyguards. Reporters armed with microphones and TV cameras were pressed in a close pack around the president-elect. I asked one of the bodyguards if it would be okay if I took pictures, and he told me I could meet Lobo after the press conference.

The story I worked on this summer through my internship with NCPR aired this morning. The project, called Common Wealth, Common Wisdom, explored similarities and differences between growing up during today's recession and the Great Depression.
